The original house treated the land as little more than a placemat, with very little interaction with its surroundings. One approaches the house via a new meandering stone path beneath the boughs of a magnificent old Monterey Pine and arrives at a massive redwood and concrete entry trellis designed to support Giant Honeysuckles. The interior spaces now open to one another, as well as to the surrounding light and trees, and ventilation chimneys bleed off summer heat build-up from extensive southwesterly glazing.
